What is MediaShare?

An easy way for you to share live or pre-recorded video between two mobile phones or in a Web browser.


MediaShare is easy-to-use mobile phone software that allows you to carry on a voice conversation while sharing videos (VideoShare), screens (ScreenShare) and clips (ClipShare) both on mobile handsets and in a Web browser (Web Portal). VideoShare lets you and the other caller can use the camera on your mobile phone to share live video. ClipShare lets you or the other caller play a pre-recorded video that either one of you recorded, or you can share a video that you downloaded from the Internet. ScreenShare lets the other caller see everything that you are doing on your phone, whether it's viewing your calendar, looking at pictures or videos, or just browsing the Internet. The MediaShare Portal lets you use any Internet browser to see live streaming video that someone is sharing using their MediaShare phone software.

Who can use MediaShare?

Any subscriber running MediaShare on their mobile phone.

Any two mobile phones that are running MediaShare can share media on their mobile phones. When only one mobile phone has MediaShare, the other party can view MediaShare from any Internet browser without any special software.

How can I start MediaShare?

On a provisioned device, MediaShare starts automatically when you start up the phone.

How does either caller know that the other caller wants to share media?

A prompt asks the other use if they want to receive media.

A prompt like "Accept VideoShare?" appears on the display of the caller being invited to see the media. When the user clicks Yes, the session starts automatically.

What type of phones allow me to use MediaShare?

Popular Symbian and Windows Mobile handsets.

When a MediaShare session ends, does my voice call end too?

No.

That's the beauty of MediaShare. You can continue to carry on a voice conversation after your MediaShare session has ended without interrupting your call. To top that, either party can start a MediaShare session as many times as they want during the call.

What happened to my phone keyboard when I called my voice mail?

Press your phone's menu key.

When you call an interactive voice response (IVR) system (like voice mail), on some phones the keyboard functions can change. To correct this situation, press the [Escape] key on the phone keyboard. On the Nokia handset the menu key looks like this:
To return to your MediaShare screen, just re-open the MediaShare application or use the taskbar on your phone.

Can I adjust the volume on my handset during a call without losing the MediaShare session?

Yes. Here's how:

  1. Establish a MediaShare session.
  2. Press and hold the menu button on the side of the phone until the Audio & Video menu appear.
  3. Select the Audio menu. The MediaShare session is still in progress but is not visible on the screen of the caller modifying the volume.
  4. Adjust the volume as you normally would.
  5. Display the MediaShare session again by pressing and holding the menu button until the menu for the Audio & Video appear as menu options on the screen.
  6. Select the Video option. The MediaShare session is now visible on the screen. Both the voice call session and the Video Sharing session continue now as before and the VS session is now visible to both parties.

Can I download a clip from the Internet?

Yes. Here's how:

  1. Open the Internet web browser on your phone.
  2. Download the clip to your handset as you would normally do. To use the clip with MediaShare, it must be in 3GP/QCIF format.
  3. You can now select the clip during your MediaShare session.

Why doesn't my digit pad work when I am using MediaShare?

The digit pad on your phone is inactive when running VideoShare, ScreenShare or ClipShare.

You can only use MediaShare services with mobile subscribers who also subscribe to the MediaShare service. Note: You cannot use a MediaShare service until the CEI icon on your phone is green.

How do I leave the MediaShare screen when I am in ScreenShare?

Press and hold the handset menu key.

How can I share pre-recorded clips that I record using my phones native software?

Make sure the format is correct and the file is stored in the right folder.

Clips must be recorded in 3GP/QCIF format, encoded using H.263 format (i.e., 3GPP), and have an extension of either .3gp or .3g2. The (QCIF video resolution is 176 x 144 pixels.) Improperly formatted clips display a Play error message and are not played. The clip must be stored in one of the following folders (or in a subfolder of one of these locations): c:\data\videos\*.* (phone memory) or in e:\videos\*.* (memory card). Clips stored elsewhere are ignored.

Can I pause a clip during a VideoShare or ClipShare session?

Yes.

You can pause the clip by clicking Select and then clicking Pause. To continue the playing of the clip, click Select and then click Resume.

Can I stop a clip when it is being played?

Yes.

You can stop a clip by either clicking the down cursor key, or by clicking Select and then clicking Disconnect Video.
